Well, i finally saw Brokeback Mountain today. While it was a beautiful film with fine cinematography of gorgeous American west landscapes, I thought that it was just a sad story. Ennis' sad life made me feel terribly sorry for him and how, through his narrow minded raising, felt as though he couldn't really be who he actually was in society. Overall I felt the film to be a commentary on gay-bashing and the marginalization of gays in the American west. Simultaneously it also illustrates the progress that has been made in the last 40 years in America in gay acceptance. It did show that during the time period, 1963 through to about 1983 that these two men's deception was not a deception of their friends and family, but of themselves. This is an important film in that it doesn't portray gay men as the "sissy" or flamboyant but instead represents what is overwhelmingly the actual (probably actual) majority of gay men - as average guys.
hi curtis this is curtis. just for the fun of it i googled my name and your we site came up. i'm a little older and live in british columbia but the names the same. i also watched brokeback mt. can't say i liked it. to slow and couldn't flow with the emotion part of the show.
